He taught at Carol City Middle School for seven years, until June 2011, before coming to South Miami Middle.Ĭurrently in his seventh year as Band Director at South Miami Middle School, Mr. Williams was not only the Director of Bands, including Jazz Band, Concert Band, and the Marching Band, he also performed for and directed the Miami Heat’s Street Band. Williams began teaching Band in January 2004 at Carol City Middle School. After graduation in December 2003, with a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Florida A & M University, Mr. The Jazz Band can be seen performing regularly in the community, at events such as the Mayor's State of the City Address and the SoMi Art Walk at Sunset Place. The Jazz, Symphonic & Concert Bands perform annually at the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment and other competitions where they frequently earn superior ratings.
All bands perform at the Winter and Spring Concerts. Students are divided between four performing groups - the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Beginning Band - with an opportunity to advance in levels.
Many of our 8th graders advance into elite high school music programs such as New World School of the Arts and Coral Reef Senior High School.
Accepting nearly one hundred applicants after competitive auditions, our band program promotes discipline, teamwork, maturity, grace, academic and individual growth and a lot of fun. The South Miami Middle School Band Magnet program is one of the most prestigious middle school music programs in Miami, Florida.
